From July 1st, 2018, the Kontena Cloud UI will be available free of charge to everyone running Kontena Classic Platforms.
And not so good news
Users have found hosted Kontena Cloud services ideal for testing Kontena features before setting up a real production environment. With many companies such as DigitalOcean and AWS offering computing resources at affordable prices and as setting up self-hosted Kontena Masters is so simple, most of our users are running their Kontena platforms on their preferred cloud provider or on-premises. Also, many of Kontena users have emphasised that by hosting Kontena platforms by themselves they will have better control and visibility of their environments.
Based on these facts, hosted services (platforms, nodes, image repositories) on Kontena Cloud will be discontinued on 1.1.2019. We wanted to tell this news as early as possible so you will have sufficient time to move your hosted platforms to self-hosted environments.
What does this mean for you as a Kontena Cloud hosted services subscriber?
We will continue to provide you with your current level of hosted services (as at June 30th, 2018) up until December 31st, 2018 at your usual subscription rates. Please note that as of July 1st, 2018 additional hosted (compute) nodes, hosted platforms or hosted image registries will no longer be available for new customers. However, current customers (with existing hosted service subscriptions) can continue to purchase additional hosted resources through until December 31st, 2018.
You can still continue using Kontena Cloud as your authorization and monitoring service for your self-hosted platforms. It’s now totally free for everyone. We will also continue to offer (paid) support for Kontena Cloud up until December 31st, 2018 in accordance with our current support agreements.
From January 1st, 2019 we will no longer be offering hosted services. Should you wish to continue to run your own hosted service, it may be necessary for you to set up your own Kontena Master. See the Kontena Master docs here to find out how to do this.
What other container/orchestration alternatives do we offer?
You can learn about Kontena Pharos, our Kubernetes distribution here. It makes setting up and running Kubernetes easier.
